|The profession of journalists, photographers and publishers has always challenged us to be on the move. Every year, we travel tens of thousands of kilometers, and our interests cover a broad thematic specter. Over the years we have revealed an unimaginable variety of undiscovered places of the Bulgarian landscape and remarkable historical and cultural monuments with an incredible reach back in time. This brings us a great deal of cognitive, aesthetic and emotional satisfaction and makes us travel again and again. The unpaved roads have led us to new and new layers of the immense natural diversity and cultural and historical heritage of the Land called Bulgaria. Every touch with that world is a glimps into the depths of the millennia and sparingly whispers to us who we were and where we came from...
We reflected the impressions of our countless trips in five documentaries and in about 20 authors' books, as well as in dozens of other editions illustrated by us, some of which were printed by different publishers, and others - since 1990, have been parts of the creative asset of Borina Publishing House for more than a quarter of a century now. They were published in eight languages and, despite thousands and thousands of copies some of them appeared now to be bibliographic rarity. In a world of ever-expanding globalization, those books became the basis for understanding and becoming aware of the Bulgarian national identity, by turning into a cause for its preservation.
The idea about The Great Book of Bulgaria came as a natural result of our hundreds of travels related to the popularization of the Bulgarian lands and the awakening the insights of the human genius that had left numerous traces not only in the Bulgarian historical past but also on the vast stage of the European civilization. The earliest human habitation in Europe - the Kozarnika cave with artifacts from the human lifestyle dating back in 1,600,000, the emergence of the first graphical systems for storing and conveyance of Knowledge, the world's earliest processed gold, the oldest copper and gold mines in Europe, the creation of the Glagolitic and the Cyrillic alphabets and the Christianization of the Slavic peoples - all those have undoubtedly a Bulgarian address. The first proto-urban settlements established in the plains - impressive village mounds, over 20 meters tall -witness to the millennial development of a population that had settled and lived in one and the same place. Thanks to the favorable geographic conditions, activities such as agriculture, cattle breeding, mining, crafts, navigation and trade, made their first European steps on the Balkans...
To make our idea about the book come true, we invited our friend, the historian Atanas Orachev, Doctor of Science, with whom we already have several successful projects, the last of which -Bulgaria - the Beginnings of Mining, Metallurgy and Ancient Treasures (with over 600 color illustrations) - appeared in the public domain in February 2018 with the exclusive support of the Geotechmin OOD and the Elatzite-Med AD.
The Great Book about Bulgaria in a unique way reveals Bulgaria's undeniable belonging to Europe and the eternal aspirations of the Bulgarians to self-affirm on the troubled lands of the Balkans. With over 1,100 color photos accompanying the texts of the various themes, the book is a glamorous journey and praise of the magical beauty of the Bulgarian land - a beautiful piece of Europe where, once you come across, it is impossible not to fall in love and not to return here again and again... A world unimaginable - a cradle of European civilization, full of endless opportunities to experience interesting happenings and emotions.
