we now nave me pleasure то discover Dimitrov's third novel, presented in its English translation: the highly original Light of Men, whose English version was wordsmithed by the author himself. The Bulgarian edition was first published in 2003 and stirred significant attention, including accolades by pundits.
Light of Men defies rigid categorization. It does not fit easily into the category "fiction," and the author never claimed it was a scholarly monograph either. Nevertheless it is based on painstaking multi-disciplinary research that is far broader than belles lettres. The novel draws upon Dimitrov's detailed knowledge of the Scriptures, patristic literature, and legendary tradition. It also considers recent research on all these subjects. Although Light of Men has no academic claims per se, it still presents a challenge to scholars of early Christianity with its original, yet substantiated discussion of the family and disciples of Christ and the events of the early days of the Church.
